Another of Delaroche's ahistorical paintings. Here we see Elizabeth I lying on cushions with her court around her, she has been depicted as refusing to rest once she knew she was dying and one popular film portrayed her as standing almost to the very end of her life. Here she is on cushions rather than in a bed a courtier kneels before her is he begging her for the word about the succession? Or is it James I taking over the kingdom in the very moment of her death?
All that said it isnt an accurate depiction of Elizabeth's I death but taken from the artists imagination.
