Agasse painted many animals in his lifetime and was espeacily adept at the anatomy of the animal he was painting, this is one example of his early work and the brushstrokes dont seem so polished as in later paintings.
Despite this being an early work the sign of the genius to come is still evident in the exacting nature of the way that he has painted the fur on the black goats leg. But the hooves and faces still seem to be unfinsihed compared to later in his careeer.
